Top Companies Utilizing AI to Create Jobs
AI's definition in the dictionary is Artificial Intelligence, but what does that mean? No, it doesn’t mean robots will overtake the world and cause mass destruction, well, not now, at least. AI is known for using intelligence from computers and machines to mimic human capabilities such as problem-solving. Recent innovations have made AI much more prominent, and many companies are starting to utilize it. Famous companies that use AI, which will be covered in this blog, are Uber, Amazon, Google, and Apple, but how do they use it?
Uber
Uber is the company that takes you from Point A to Point B. It's the company you rely on when you lack transportation and need to get somewhere quickly and efficiently. You'd always have a driver, but now there is NONE! Uber has recently introduced self-driving cars.
These cars not only take passengers to their destinations, but they manage deliveries too! Uber has partnered with Waymo, which helps produce these automobiles for Uber.
Self-driving cars can only be used in Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles but are expected to expand within the following year. The jobs for drivers seem to be decreasing within the Uber company. However, it creates more jobs, allowing people to create safety measures around Uber’s AI. Additionally, AI is expanding job positions, such as managing the technology of the cars within the business!
Amazon
Amazon is a company that you can rely on to get products efficiently and with low costs. It is a company that contains various endless products and is always there to support a customer's needs. So, how does AI fit in with Amazon? Did they also implement self-driving cars? Not quite! Amazon is using AI slightly differently, which benefits them as a company. No one likes or expects products to be damaged when delivered to their house.
To combat this, Amazon has employees set at various stations to check if a product is damaged. This is considered one of the main time-consuming activities at Amazon Warehouses, and AI can make it more efficient.
Researchers built an AI to spot and flag irregularities before shipping out. Since this AI requires a chunk of data, they approached the construction of this machinery with baby steps, such as training the machine to construct a mental model of a particular product and have it compare images with another image of the same product.
The research team is set to implement AI like this throughout the company, such as having AI figure out why a product was damaged. While this AI will close jobs regarding this specific task, it’ll open up other company sections that can focus more on shipping the products faster and better spending the employees' time.
Google is the search engine that almost everyone uses. It is a site that helps consumers answer questions about anything. Recently, it developed an AI focusing primarily on on-site users' analytics, such as figuring out the content on web pages and seeing patterns in user behavior. The intended goal of this AI is for Google to produce better search results. Google said,
"We believe that AI is a foundational and transformational technology that will provide compelling and helpful benefits to people and society through its capacity to assist, complement, empower, and inspire people in almost every field of human endeavor."
To reach the intended goal, Google has the AI learn algorithms to:
Understand natural language queries.
Improve spelling correction.
Autocomplete suggestions.
Personalize search results.
Identify spam and low-quality content.
Detect and understand images.
Google's usage of AI will make searching much more efficient for users in the future.
Apple
Apple is one of the most famous companies that use AI in their products. Everyone knows and loves Siri, the AI woman in your iPhone.
She assists with suggestions, searches, and anything regarding the iPhone. Siri isn't based on AI, but she does rely on some AI systems to function. She's one of the first instances of AI being on your phone and is seen to continue to evolve!
With Siri, phone assistants spend less time assisting customers and more time focusing on implementing new features into phones. The employees spend their time wisely updating phones with more refined technology rather than completing tasks an AI could efficiently complete.
How Will it Affect Jobs in the Incoming Future?
AI always needs improvements and to be watched over so it doesn't become reckless and out of control. With human supervision, AI will continue to grow. It’ll fix inefficiencies, such as spell-checking, quality control, and assisting customers with minuscule tasks. It will take some jobs away but, in return, open more critical positions. It's up to companies whether they want to implement AI into their products; however, companies using AI will be more advantageous and built to last.
